Things You May Already Have at Home to Kill Bad Breath
Posted by Ella Pierce
There are countless bad breath home remedies available out there and the sooner you start paying attention to your problem the better your chances are in finding what truly works for you. Just because brushing twice a day works for other people, it doesn't mean that it is going to be your salvation too.
How will you know that these remedies work? Obviously, you have to keep trying until you find something that will completely eliminate the problem and help kill bacteria thriving in between your teeth and tongue. Don’t worry; it’s not the end of the world! The good news is that bad breath can often be prevented just by following some simple steps. You’ll be surprised that some items in your kitchen can do wonders to your breath.
Tea Tree Oil
Sometimes using commercial mouth wash is not the best bad breath remedy and you may need something more potent to fight bad breath. Tea tree oil is proven to be a powerful disinfectant and it helps inhibit the growth of bacteria in the mouth.
A lot of companies actually incorporate tea tree oil onto to their toothpastes and mouthwashes because of its effectiveness in inhibiting bacterial growth in the mouth. A lot of studies confirm that toothpaste alone does very little in fighting bad breath but when they added some drops of tea tree oil to the toothpaste and mouthwash, bacteria was evidently decreased.
Before brushing, add a drop of the oil to your toothpaste as an additive and you will notice that your mouth feels cleaner and fresher. You can also add 3 drops of tea tree oil to a cup of lukewarm water and use it as a mouth rinse. Do this at least two times a day and you are on your way to sweeter smelling breath.
NOTE:
When you use tea tree oil, it's important for you not to swallow it.

Tea
Instead of drinking coffee in the morning, why not replace it with tea? Aside from it is healthier and it doesn’t contain as much acid as coffee, you are doing your oral health a huge favor. Tea is a great natural bad breath remedy and I truly believe in its effectiveness in killing odor-causing bacteria inside the mouth.
Studies confirm that green tea extracts effectively fight bacteria by inhibiting their growth. Tea contains polyphenols- these are antioxidants that protect human cells from damage. Tea polyphenols help restrain bacteria growth by up to 30% thus reducing the production of compounds that can cause bad breath.
If you are a big coffee drinker, you might find the taste of tea a little off. I would suggest trying out flavored green tea with no artificial ingredients. There are so many variants and flavors that are sweetened with fruits. I personally love the AriZona Mandarin Orange Green Tea with Ginseng & Honey Jasmine.

Parsley
If you are in a restaurant and you notice that your breath is starting to smell not-so-pleasant because you have had huge servings of garlic chicken or onion soup, don’t panic because you can counteract this by chewing on the leaves of parsley. This has been one of the fastest and easiest ways to eliminate bad odor in the mouth. The leaves of the parsley are rich in chlorophyll and this acts as a neutralizer of nasty dragon breath. The relief is only temporary but hey, at least you know what to do when an oral malodor emergency arises! So the next time you are in a smelly breath situation and you want an instant bad breath remedy, munch on parsley leaves.
If you can't stand parsley in its raw form (like me), you can opt for parsley capsules. Pop a couple in a pill box and bring it anywhere with you just in case you are planning on a garlic or onion extravaganza. Better safe than sorry! The capsules always come in handy when you're out on a date or if you have a job interview.
